The Minister for Science and Research Senator Don Farrell and the Vietnamese Minister for Science and Technology His Excellency Professor Nguyen Quan signed an Agreement on Scientific and Technological Cooperation, at Parliament House on 26th June 2013.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and Vietnam.
The signing of the Agreement builds on the 1992 bilateral Memorandum of Understanding on Science and Technology, further cementing the close friendship between the two countries.
Vietnam is one of the fast-growing Asian economies creating export and investment opportunities for Australian companies. Institutions such as CSIRO has a long history of cooperation with Vietnam in agriculture, land management and water resources research, while the Australian Research Council is funding 17 new and ongoing collaborative research projects.
Australian investment in educational services in Vietnam has grown steadily with notable investments such as RMIT International University and the University of Danang- University of Queensland English language Institute.
This Agreement further supports development of the science and technology relationship between our two nations and enables the continuation of collaborative research projects in important areas such as the impact of climate change.
