Drawing on experiments devised by science communicators from Questacon, Australia’s National Science and Technology Centre and the department’s office in Vietnam has compiled an English-Vietnamese science workbook, Have fun with Science and Technology. The workbook brings together 50 hands-on experiments using inexpensive household items, each accompanied by an explanation of scientific phenomena and applications in the real world.
Vietnam is keen to promote early interest in science and technology. This workbook provides simple ideas for students, teachers and parents to explore science while assisting their learning of English. The book is also a useful resource for Australian students learning Vietnamese.
The workbook supports Vietnam's goal to teach science in English by 2020. Vice-Minister of Education and Training Prof Tran Quang Quy noted that no such English-Vietnamese text, with simple experiments and scientific explanations, previously existed. The book will help encourage a new generation of Vietnamese scientists that are able to communicate in English and engage with the global science community.
The bilingual text of Have Fun with Science and Technology is available at the Mediafire website.
