Almost 100 delegates from 15 countries attended the first annual East Asia Summit (EAS) Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Provider Network forum in Seoul on 4-7 November 2013.
Industry representatives and training providers joined with the Department of Education, the Department of Industry, TAFE Directors Australia, Service Skills Australia and Manufacturing Skills Australia, and TVET providers VETASSESS, EQUALS and Accredited Online Training to learn from each other and build new partnerships.
Participants work-shopped topics including skills assessments, industry in training and data collection.
Australia’s Embassy in Seoul hosted a dinner on the second night of the forum. Mr Brendan Berne, Charge d’affaires, addressed the gathering, stressing the importance of education cooperation and acknowledging the fruitful collaboration between Australia and Korea in the EAS.
Delegates also visited a Meister High School and a Kia Motors production plant to gain insights into industry in Korea and the way government and training providers are working to ensure the Korean workforce is able to meet industry needs.
The forum closed with a resolution to promote the network domestically to ensure an even stronger turnout at the 2014 forum.
