Cutting-edge science and technology projects from Australian and Korean tertiary institutions were show cased at the recent Australia-Korea Research and Innovation Collaboration Workshop, hosted by our department at the Australian Embassy in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
Some of the many highlights included Australian National University’s collaboration with the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology on a helicon plasma project used for computer microcircuits, and Macquarie University’s partnership with Seoul National University on a green car technology project.
The workshop, attended by over 70 Korean and Australian researchers and delegates from the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering (ATSE), builds cooperation between Australian and Korean institutions to share successful research partnerships.
It was also an opportunity to publicise the new Endeavour Leadership Program, which supports research programs for overseas study education, training and research for Australia’s highest performing students, researchers and professionals.
The Australian Government’s science agenda was also on display, with the Korean language version of the Partnering with Australia on Science, Innovation and Research booklet promoted to workshop attendees. The booklet, produced by the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, outlines opportunities for international organisations to invest in and collaborate with Australian organisations on science, research and innovation projects.
The workshop proved to be a very successful and participants were greatly encouraged by the level of complementary research priorities between Australia and Korea, particularly in science and technology. Overall, the workshop was a great outcome for international cooperation, promoting greater engagement and collaboration, and in identifying proposals for future partnerships in science and technology.
