Teo Yu-Gin, Director of Navitas and Curtin Singapore Achieving balance with flexibility
Curtin Singapore, like all transnational education campuses, has its roots thousands of kilometers away. Founded in Perth Australia, Curtin University of Technology has been offering courses in Singapore since 1986 through various educational partners.
“Initially, we were offering only business courses, until we noticed a high demand for allied health graduates. As a result, we began to bring in health sciences, then later communications and public relations and we kept on growing. We now represent all faculties of Curtin University Perth campus apart from one,“ states Teo Yu-Gin, Director of Navitas.
Curtin Singapore, like many transnational campuses is a melting pot of nationalities and cultures. Close to half the student population is from Singapore and the remaining students come from countries including Indonesia, China, Malaysia,Myanmar and Vietnam.
“On campus, there is a strong willingness to engage with other nationalities and this gives students the opportunity to gain a different perspective,” said Teo Yu Gin. “As global society grows more integrated, the value of obtaining a cross cultural perspective, in addition to formal education will certainly become increasingly essential for the professionals of tomorrow,” he noted. |
