New Vice Chancellor of Universiti Sains Malaysia

The Ministry of Higher Education recently announced the appointment of Professor Datuk Dr Omar Osman as the new Vice Chancellor for Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Penang. Datuk Osman replaces Professor Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak. Professor Osman’s contract runs until 27 September 2014.

Prior to his appointment, Datuk Osman held the post of  Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Development) at USM. He has a Master’s degree in Construction Building (1985) and PhD in Project Management (1989) from Heriot-Watt University United Kingdom.

His current field of research is in Education for Sustainable Development and Sustainability Aspects of Organization. He is also responsible for establishing the Regional Centre of Expertise on Education for Sustainable Development, called RCE Penang USM, which is one of seven regional centers of expertise in this area in the world.

Datuk Osman previously served in the Ministry of Education from 2000-2004 as the special officer to the Minister of Education, Malaysia in the field of education management and physical planning.
