12 July 2011

DEEWR hosted three senior officials from the Malaysian Department of Higher Education between 29 June and 6 July to undertake a policy exchange program on international student management. Mr Rusli Bin Harun, Director of the Malaysian Department of Higher Education and two of his colleagues travelled to Australia to participate in a two-week program of policy briefing and site visits. During their visit to the DEEWR and DIAC offices, Mr Rusli and his colleagues were able to gain a comprehensive understanding of Australia’s international student policy and the systems that support Australia’s regulations.
The delegation also visited the University of Canberra, Swinburne University and the University of Melbourne.

The program was funded through the International Education Policy Exchange Program and forms part of the ongoing commitment to policy cooperation between Australia and Malaysia.

This policy exchange program successfully raised the profile of Australia’s expertise and innovative practice, and will create future opportunities for mutual cooperation and influence between Malaysia and Australia.
