Australia and Japan strengthen research ties in marine science

Page Content

14 September 2013

An Australian Government funded workshop on marine science has strengthened research ties between Australia and Japan. The workshop will see the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) and the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) develop an operational plan for on-going marine research collaboration. The workshop was a key outcome of high level government-to-government talks in science and technology held last year.

The workshop focused on the impact of global changes on tropical and subtropical marine ecosystems, attracting more than 50 representatives from leading research institutions and universities in Australia and Japan. Representatives discussed the challenges of managing ocean acidification, adaptability of marine ecosystems to climate change and the use of new technologies to better understand ecosystems in groups.
