After years of advocacy by Australia’s government and education sector, India’s Ministry of Human Resource Development has now issued an official memorandum advising that the Association of Indian Universities (the recognition body) will issue equivalence certificates where the Australian transcript reflects all units as recognized by the degree-issuing institution or university. Units derived from a pathway qualification should be included but should not be separately identified as such.
Only units earned in Australia can be included in this way. This achievement is the outcome of many years of work between India and Australia. It is a testament to the willingness and capacity of India and Australia to find solutions to shared challenges and bodes well for our continued collaboration.
This recognition is required for a certificate of equivalence to be issued for Indian students, essential for government employment in India or further study in India.
What this means for students
Recognition of pathway programs is a significant breakthrough for students with Australian qualifications derived through an Australian pathway program and seeking Indian government employment or further study in India.
