Japan’s ongoing Higher education reform

Significant education reform is ongoing in Japan, as part of the government’s “Abenomics” agenda to revitalise the economy and respond to demographic challenges. Patterns of research funding to universities and science agencies in Japan also continue to change, with increasing concentration in top institutions and priority areas.
 
The education and science office in Tokyo have provided the latest policy update on Japan’s changes to research funding and higher education reform.
