On 22 September 2011, legislation was introduced into the House of Representative to amend the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000 as part of the Government’s second phase response to the Baird Review recommendations.
The package of three Bills provides for the establishment of a new Tuition Protection Service (TPS) as a single mechanism to place students when a provider cannot meet its obligations, or as a last resort, to provide refunds of unexpended course monies.
To support the TPS the Bill also introduces a series of complementary initiatives including:
The introduction of these Bills follows the rebasing of the Annual Registration Charge which passed Parliament last week.
