On 1 September the Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs, Craig Emerson, and the Minister for Tertiary Education, Senator Chris Evans, announced a $1.5m loan to the Libyan Embassy to support Libyan Government scholarship holders and their families. The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) will continue to seek up-to-date advice from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) and the Libyan Embassy concerning the situation in Libya and the potential impact on Libyan students studying in Australia.
