On 14 October 2011, the Australian Government announced the establishment of the International Education Advisory Council.
The Council is chaired by Mr Michael Chaney AO and comprises eminent people from Australia's education and business sectors.
The Council was tasked with providing advice on the challenges and opportunities facing the international education sector in Australia.
The Council released a discussion paper on Tuesday 24 April 2012 and also held a number of group stake holder consultations sessions across Australia.
The Government released the Council's report on Wednesday 27 February 2013, and is now considering the Council's advice in developing a five year strategy to support the sustainability and quality of the international education sector in Australia.
Australia Education International (AEI) in the Department of Education provides secretariat support to the Council.
