Minister Tehan visits India

From 20 to 22 November 2019, Minister for Education, the Hon Dan Tehan led a delegation to India to participate in events in support of the Australian education and research sector. He also co-chaired the fifth Australia India Education Council (AIEC) meeting with the Indian Minister for Human Resource Development, Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’.
 
Minister Tehan’s delegation comprised vice-chancellors and senior representatives from Australia’s education and research sector.
 
Education is the central pillar in the bilateral relationship, with Indian students the second largest cohort for international student enrolments in Australia.
 
A joint communiqué outlining outcomes of the AIEC was released and included:
·         the establishment of the Australia-India Research Students Fellowship pilot program to connect Indian and Australian research students
·         further collaboration between higher education policy makers and quality assurance agencies to remove barriers on partnerships between quality partners
·         a commitment to continue working in the area of qualification recognition for joint programs
