Australia’s international education peak bodies have signed a statement of support to promote best practice amongst international education agents, the Education and Training Minister Simon Birmingham announced today.
Senator Birmingham said
the London Statement is a collaboration between Australia, the United Kingdom, Ireland and New Zealand, and recognises the important role played by international education agents and sets out the ethical framework in which they must operate.
“For Australia, we have long been ahead of the game in that these requirements are already part of our legislative framework,” Senator Birmingham said.
“In recognising the London Statement, Australia’s international education sector again shows leadership in working to drive improvements that will enhance our reputation for quality.
“I welcome the leadership shown by the international education sector working in partnership with the Australian Government on this issue."
“Australia’s reputation for quality is integral to our success in international education."
“All those involved in this important sector must embody our reputation for quality."
“This is particularly so for international education agents who play a valuable role in attracting prospective students, and informing them about study and life in Australia."
“In building a strong plan for the future we must also ensure the policy settings that support international education are right, and assist education institutions to grow their competitiveness.”
“A good start has been made with the reforms to the legislative framework, but reforms must continue to make it easier for institutions to operate effectively, while safeguarding Australia’s reputation for quality."
“This is an important step in our shared objective of providing world-class education and training and creating the graduates and skilled professionals needed not only here in Australia, but internationally as well.”
