On 14 April, the Minister for Education, the Hon Christopher Pyne spoke at Flinders University on the transformational power of international education, highlighting the role of education in the relationship between Australia and Indonesia, particularly its ability to strengthen intercultural and interfaith understanding.

On Friday 28 March, Robert Griew met with Professor Abid Khan, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice President (Global Engagement), Monash University here at the Department of Education and signed the contract for Government funding for the Australia-Indonesia Centre.

Representatives from 20 Indonesian and 10 Australian universities participated in a successful workshop co-hosted by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture and the department's post in Jakarta on 1 - 2 July to support Australian students study experience in Indonesia.

Establishing a new treaty with Indonesia will support research cooperation between Australian institutions and universities and their Indonesian counterparts.
