Representatives from 20 Indonesian and 10 Australian universities participated in a successful workshop co-hosted by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture and the department's post in Jakarta on 1 - 2 July 2013 to support Australian students study experience in Indonesia. The workshop provided an opportunity for a core group of Indonesian universities with the capacity to absorb Australian participants into existing study programs or to help representatives to discuss projects with Australian university partners. Discussions centred on the type of programs that would attract Australian students as well as the legal and operational matters important to the successful management of mobility projects. The workshop also provided an opportunity to develop professional networks between both senior executive and study abroad staff in Indonesian and Australian universities.
The workshop produced a number of key outcomes:
- Endorsement of Australian Government mobility programs by the Directorate for Institutional and Collaborative Affairs.
- Agreement to develop resources, such as risk management plans and documentation of visa application processes to support mobility.
- Development of a ‘Study in Indonesia Guide’ which will provide general information about studying and living in Indonesia, including information on existing international programs, services and facilities provided by Indonesian universities. The Guide is expected to be available later this year.
In 2013 more than 400 Australian students have been offered Australian Government subsidies to support study in Indonesia.
