4 August 2011

Senator the Hon Christopher Evans, Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills, Jobs and Workplace Relations, attended the East Asia Summit (EAS) Education Ministers Meeting (EMM) in Bali, Indonesia on 18 July 2011.

At the meeting Education Ministers agreed to:

  • meet biennially commencing 2012
  • develop an EAS Education Cooperation Action Plan
  • establish an EAS Education Senior Officials Meeting process to prepare the Action Plan for adoption at the next meeting in 2012, and
  • report outcomes of the EMM to EAS Leaders at the sixth EAS Summit to be held in Bali in November 2011.
  • Cooperation through the EAS will build the capacity of EAS member countries education systems and promote cross-border and international education. Strengthening the quality and transparency of EAS education systems, which include most of Australia’s key education partners, will support the long-term sustainability of Australia’s international education sector.

A media release on the meeting is available on the Minister’s media centre.
