Opportunities to improve student mobility were an outcome from the recent visit of Dr Sunil Nawaratne, Secretary of the Sri Lankan Ministry of Higher Education.
Dr Nawaratne visited Canberra and Adelaide in early April to learn from Australia’s experience developing, implementing and working within a qualifications framework. Sri Lanka has recently developed a draft qualifications framework and was keen to hear about Australia’s experience. The potential to harmonise qualifications frameworks between the two countries will help improve student mobility.
The visit also resulted in further collaborative and coordination work for the Department. This work will help Sri Lanka to realise their vision of being the most sought after education hub in Asia.
The Department will work with AusAID to enable qualifications framework subject matter experts to visit Sri Lanka and help refine Sri Lanka’s draft qualifications framework as well as to identify how Sri Lanka can access AusAID’s volunteers program for the English teachers. AEI New Delhi is liaising directly with Sri Lanka regarding policy development in international education service provision.
