Applications for two new fellowships for research linked to the work of the Australia India Education Council (AIEC) will open in April. The Endeavour AIEC Research Fellowships will provide up to $23,500 each to two recipients to pursue research linked to the work of the AIEC.

The new fellowships were announced by the Prime Minister of Australia, the Hon Julia Gillard MP, during a visit to Delhi in October 2012. Education, science and research sit at the heart of the strategic knowledge partnership between Australia and India and formed an important part of the official visit.

During the three-day visit to Delhi, Prime Minister Gillard visited research projects supported by the Australia India Strategic Research Fund and, alongside the Prime Minister of India, Dr Manmohan Singh, witnessed the signing of four bilateral Memoranda of Understanding, including one on student mobility and welfare.

Applications for the Endeavour AIEC Research Fellowships will open to both Australian and international applicants on 1 April – application guidelines will be available on the Endeavour Awards website closer to the opening date.
