DEEWR hosted a delegation of industry experts from the Hong Kong Building and Civil Engineering Training Board (BCTB) for a meeting on Friday 7 October 2011. The 12-member delegation met with a variety of policy and program managers in DEEWR to share information on VET and workforce policy, with a particular focus on the construction industry.
The delegation learnt about Australia’s VET system, industry and workforce policy and Australian Apprenticeships and DEEWR staff at the meeting also had the opportunity to learn about Hong Kong’s VET system during an engaging presentation by BCTB Chairman, Mr Peter Ng.
The BCTB is part of the Hong Kong Vocational Training Council and has similar functions to Australia’s industry skills councils. The delegation was made up of experts from a range of industry bodies, such as the Construction Industry Council, Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Training and various construction firms.
While they were in Australia, the delegation met with several government and industry representatives, including the NSW Department of Education and Communities, Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and Construction and Property Services Industry Skills Council (CPSISC).
The delegation’s visit provided an important opportunity for DEEWR to build on an already strong relationship between the Hong Kong Vocational Training Council and Australian education and training stakeholders.
