The Australian Government is committed to providing educational and professional opportunities for citizens and permanent residents of Australia to undertake study, research or professional development overseas. In addition to the Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships, the department provides a financial contribution towards a number of other scholarships which enable Australians to study overseas. These include:

 

Multiple countries

 
comprehensive searchable database of undergraduate and postgraduate funding opportunities for Indigenous Australians.
 

The Menzies Foundation Scholarships are an investment in identifying and promoting the next generation of Australian leaders.

The Association of Commonwealth Universities

The ASC offers Commonwealth Scholarships to undertake Masters qualifications in low and middle income countries. These Commonwealth Master's Scholarships allow successful applicants to benefit from the expertise provided by universities in low and middle income countries around the Commonwealth.

Eligible destination countries include: Bangladesh, Botswana, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Pakistan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, and the West Indies.

 

Azerbaijan

Brunei

 
offers various scholarships for eligible applicants to study at Brunei’s universities.

 

China

 
encourage and assist students and young professionals to pursue specialized study, research and experience in priority areas of interest in the bilateral Australia-China relationship. The Scholarships are given to encourage Australian students and young professionals to study in China in priority areas of interest. Europe

 
brings together seven existing European Union programs (including Erasmus Mundus) in fields of education, training, youth and sport.
 
Southern Cross Cultural Exchange

offers four scholarships annually to become an exchange student, living with a local host family and attending a local secondary school, in France, Germany and Italy. SCCE also offers student exchange programs to countries throughout Western Europe and Scandinavia, North America and Japan, varying from in length from six weeks to ten months.

 
 

Finland

Goethe Institut Australien

offers a range of scholarships for a stay in Germany. They are intended for current and future teachers of German, as well as persons in key position in the education sector, and include language courses and a diverse seminar program at the Goethe-Institut in Germany. In addition, the Pedagogical Exchange Service offers scholarships for language assistant positions in Germany.Applications are currently open and applicants can find more information the Goethe Institut website.

Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT), offers undergraduate, research, teacher and Japanese studies scholarships to Australian citizens who wish to study at Japanese universities.
 
Japan Student Services Organisation (JASSO) Scholarships

JASSO programs include providing scholarships to international students, and implementing international exchange programs.

 

Japan Society for Promotion of Science

postdoctoral fellowships for foreign researchers to conduct joint research activities with colleagues at Japanese universities and research institutes. JSPS offers five postdoctoral fellowship programs, each with different eligibility requirements.

 

Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University

Japanese university offering various scholarships opportunities to overseas applicants.

 

University of Tokyo

offers advanced study and research opportunities to international students under: 

offers a ‘English Track Program (E-Track)’ where international students can get their Bachelor’s Degree in English while living in Japan. Students are eligible to apply for a scholarship in which 30-100% of tuition costs may be waived.

The Ministry of Education of the Sultanate of Oman offers a scholarship to Australian students seeking to undertake undergraduate coursework in Oman.
The scholarship includes full tuition fees, an annual return airfare to Oman, health insurance, and a living stipend of approximately AUD$500 per month.
 
 

Saudi Arabia

 
KAUST provides postgraduate scholarships and aspires to be a destination for scientific and technological education and research. It offers Master’s and PhD programs in the following disciplines:

​A*STAR Research Attachment programme (ARAP)

ARAP is designed to facilitate collaboration between researchers in overseas universities and in A*STAR. Typically, a PhD student who remains matriculated at the overseas university, undertakes a 1-2 years of research work in an A*STAR research institute. 

​Singapore International Pre-Graduate Award (SIPGA)

​The SIPGA program provides a 2 - 6 month attachment experience in an A*STAR research institute for third or fourth year undergraduates or Masters students. The student works with a supervisor, usually as part of a larger project, in an A*STAR research institute. 

​ Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA)

​The SINGA programme is a partnership between A*STAR and three local universities, namely Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS) and Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). It offers a full PhD scholarship to international students who wish to pursue a PhD education in Singapore.

offers financial support to young Australians who would like to further their education or career in the United Kingdom in their field of endeavour, education, business, sport, arts and culture and the professions.

Stanford Humanities Centre
